Keeping Hydrated on a flight

A plane ride can be annoying, especially when you have dry skin type.
When I went to China this summer, I forgot how dry a plane can get.
So on my way back, I made sure that I was super prepared and it felt amazing!

A new way I discovered was using milk as facial mask.

Most flights have beverage service, even the short ones. You could simply ask for milk assuming that, and drink most of it. The "left-over" is what you put on after washing your face. Although I washed it off after 1 hour or so, I don't think that there is a huge difference if you don't wash it off.

After that, I could put on facial cream as it suppose to have longer effect.

Here is a summary of all that I have used:

1. Milk, the cheapest way and the only way if you forgot to bring skin-care with you

2. facial mask, the most effective way but it might look weird if it's not a long flight

3. facial cream, a must-have

4. facial spray, the easiest way

Also, you might want to check the restriction for carry-on liquids. I never figured out the actual restriction, but I know for sure that each bottle has to be below 100ml.

Lastly, you might want to choose airlines carefully if you are flying long.

Personally, I find that AirCanada has better entertainment and United Airlines provide more and better meals. I always bring lots of snacks whenever I am with AirCanada.

After all, a long-flight may not felt that long if you are prepared =]

My Korean Dish


Maybe because I live by myself, I always end up buying too much groceries or having nothing left at home. These were all ingredients that I have left at home and I was surprised by how good it tastes, or maybe it's just my love for spicy rick cake . 
Ingredients: Egg,Salad, Seaweed, Ramen, Fish Cakes, Rice Cake and Sauce (this was the sauce that I used , but I actually prefer the one below it)

All you need to do is boil some water in a pan and then put in rick cake for about 3 to 4 minutes, depending on the kind that you have, then add in fish cakes and ramen(fancy name for instance noodles). I prefer to put in fish cake later because they are normally cooked already. Once the water is boiling, I will add in the sauce; depending on how salty you will like your entree to be, you can add in a reasonable amount. Then, it  will take about another 1 to 2 minutes until it's ready. I added in seaweed to just make the plate looks more colorful.

It's the easiest Korean dish that I learned and it tastes amazing to me but it's not very authentic.

california adventures, part 1.

Hey there.

It's been a while, I know. No excuses I promise. I've just been doing a little exploring of the world. California to be exact. I'd decided to give the land of surfer dudes, hippies, and sunshine a chance. The West coast has always been completely foreign territory. I mean, it couldn't possibly compare to the East coast right?

What's in California besides stereotypes and too much exercise anyway?

Oh how wrong I was. 

Let's start from the beginning shall we?



5:30 am - I woke up for my 6 hour flight to San Francisco. Pros? I got a nice view of the sunrise. Cons? I woke up at 5:30am for a 6 hour flight to San Francisco. All complaining aside, I couldn't have been more excited. I even felt a little guilty for being so happy to leave my beloved East coast.


I met up with a lovely young man there who took me to the California Academy of Sciences Nightlife. There was booze, food, a beer tasting room, dj's and dancing. Oh, and a few science exhibits along the way. It was nerdy perfection.



 Day 2- I got to visit the amazing Facebook campus. It seriously made me reconsider some life choices. What I would give to be a programmer. They have unlimited access to, well, everything you could ever possibly want! And stuff you didn't even know you needed! It's like Disneyland... but people work there.





Day 3- The Three Amigos decided a roadtrip was necessary so a roadtrip we took. I took this picture thinking "Wow, this is some photogenic scenery!" Dos Amigos laughed at me. I didn't know what was to come.

it's a new year!

New Year's Eve is one of those events that never seem to live up to the hype. I've done the club scene, the countdown outdoors and even abroad, but nothing beats spending the last few moments of the previous year, and the beginnings of the new one, than with your family and friends in an intimate setting. Especially when you throw in sparkly dresses, good food and a lot of drinks!

happy holiday!


It is about -10 to -20 degree here in Edmonton,
thus I spent most of the time at home or at the mall.

I love holidays. 
Food, Sleep, Relax, Fun, Shopping and more food ...
It just passes by too fast

Part I Home
Chinese version of Christmas dinner




We had friends over for Christmas dinner and my mom cooked lots of Chinese dishes, the photo above only have the 8 cold dishes such as beef and seafood. I love Chinese food but cooking is very time-consuming. We spent two days preparing all the food.

Part II Friends
Rather than going out for dinner, we decided to cook together for the first time. They were all vegetarian dishes with whole wheat cupcake plus ice cream as dessert. 





We attempted to bake but were lacking white flour, so we used whole wheat flour. It tasted very different but still good with ice cream.

Part III Food
I have heard of Olive Garden for their great Italian food  about four years ago, finally I get to try it for the first time. Unfortunately they don't have Risotto which I had a craving for. The food was a bit salty but it was still good and the portion is big.

tea time, party time.

Ever make believe "tea time" as a kid? To be honest, I never did. I was a tomboy- Pokemon cards, building forts, and generally causing havoc outside was much more me. Playing "tea" was way too girly for my tastes, and good luck to anyone that tried to put me in a dress.  Funny how things turn out, isn't it?

 I met up with one of my best friends at the Park Hyatt hotel for high tea. It was my idea. I loved the dainty tea cups, petit fours and the girly atmosphere of it all. 6 year old me would be both shocked and disapproving.

macarons are hard.

Macarons are a finicky bunch. Temperamental little creatures. Mix the batter too much, too little and it's a fail. Ingredient measurements a little off? Failed. The oven temperature is too hot or not hot enough? Fail. There are countless ways for these delectable treats to turn out all wrong. And they have- many times.

But maybe the macaron gods were looking favourably on us (or we simply followed instructions better) but whatever the reason, these turned out perfectly.

Mmmm.. tasty stamp of approval.


This is a basic recipe for macarons. You could add flavourings, change up the almond flour for a different nut flour, whatever you'd like once you master this base!

Macaron Recipe

large egg whites 
1/4 cup white sugar 
1 1/2 cups icing sugar 
1 cup and 2 tablespoons almond flour
pinch of salt
Optional: food colouring

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Beat egg whites till it holds soft peaks, and gradually add in white sugar until it forms stiff  peaks (aka you can hold it upside down without it falling on your head!)
3. In a separate bowl sift together almond flour, salt, and icing sugar.
4. Add sifted mixture gradually into egg whites, FOLDING into the whites. (it should be molten, but DO NOT OVERMIX). Optional: Add food colouring.
5. Pipe circles onto parchment paper and let them dry out for 15-20 minutes. (till you can touch the top without them being sticky)
6. Bake the macarons in the oven (WITH THE DOOR SLIGHTLY AJAR**) for 13 minutes.
7. Fill your macarons! You can use buttercream, jam, nutella, whatever you'd like!


Fingers crossed they'll work for you too! If not, curse under your breath, eat the still-delicious failures and try, try again.
